The Office of Marketing Communications enhances and promotes the brand of Appalachian State University by producing strategic communications, graphic and photographic identity for the university .
Communication Planning
Marketing Communications assists key units on campus in establishing effective and efficient communication plans. Major emphasis of the staff revolves around student recruitment, student enrollment, and general university marketing communications.
Publication Development
The Marketing Communications and University Communications staff coordinates print specifications, print bid submissions, graphic design, key marketing messages and thematic elements, publication proofing, photography, and print vendor relations. In addition, Marketing Communications coordinates the primary student recruitment materials for the Office of Admissions. Projects managed by Marketing Communications include the following:

The award-winning photography department works with the latest industry-standard digital hardware and software. The staff has the knowledge and vast experience to produce any style of photography required, whether in studio or in the field.

Graphics
The graphic design department has years of experience in producing award-winning, top-quality, creative designs in a variety of formats and styles. Brochures, displays, logos, complete magazine production and one-of-a-kind designs to further the marketing and branding of the university are the designers' specialty.

- First Connections has won a silver medal in the Circle of Excellence Awards Program from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) – June 2009
- First Connections won First Place Gold from Publishing Executive and Printing Impressions in the Gold Ink Awards competition – September 2008
